Small Business Development Centers of Ohio (SBDC) in partnership with the U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and the Ohio Department of Development (ODOD) provide confidential one-on-one business counseling and training to pre-venture, startup and existing business on a no-fee basis. The areas of specialized business assistance includes business planning, access to capital, financial analysis and planning, product development, marketing, human resources and technology. Each center is staffed by highly trained business professionals who have acquired the State's Certified Business Advisor (CBASM) certification and are complemented with a broad range of contributing experts from the business and university community. SBDCs are located throughout the state in major colleges, universities and chambers of commerce. SBDCs also offer a wide variety of instructional opportunities to assist Ohio's entrepreneurs succeed including eVantage and the NxLevelTM program. As a program of the Ohio SBDC network the 1st Stop Business Connection provides both telephone and internet access to a comprehensive "business start-up kit" of valuable information, including licensing and permit requirements to Ohio's entrepreneurs, as well as a model to assist in writing your business plan. More that 260 specialized business kits are available online here. As a part of the Ohio SBDC program, the International Trade Assistance Centers (ITAC)in partnership with U.S. Department of Commerce and ODOD's International Trade Division; provide confidential one-on-one business counseling, training, and mentoring to Ohio's small businesses unfamiliar with the world market export readiness assessment, international marketing plans, and market research.
Another part of the Ohio SBCD program, the Manufacturing Small Business Development Centers (MSBDC) in partnership with the Ohio Edison Technology Centers; operate specialized centers providing business management and marketing assistance to Ohio's small manufacturers, technology companies, and firms being impacted by the defense industry downsizing. The Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (PTAC) in partnership with ODOD's Division of Minority Business Affairs; provide Ohio's small businesses assistance in selling goods and services to local, state and federal government. The local point of contact offers specialized counseling on marketing, contract administration, technical and quality assurance assistance.
